About

This Blog

Hi, I’m Dave. I’ve been blogging since late 1998 on Davezilla.com. In 2002, I got in trouble for that blog name, but I won. I’ve had this domain name for over a year, but finally decided to use it as I had no place to blog about what I know best: social media and how it’s converging with the offline world.

Me

Professional
I’ve been developing software since 1986. I worked full time as an Information Architect from 1998–2006. At that time, I started the Social Media Group for Campbell Ewald and have worked in social media ever since.

In early 2011, I became the Director of Interactive for Campbell Ewald. I love working there and love my job. I get paid to direct all aspects of digital and social campaigns, marketing and communication forms. I manage several disciplines at CE including:

  • Client Technology (developers)
  • Content Strategy
  • Interactive Creative
  • Interactive Strategy
  • Project Management
  • Quality Assurance
  • Research and Development
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Social Media
  • User Experience Architecture

I am also a presenter and have spoken and consulted to CEOs, CMOs, universities and conferences all over the country. In the past, I was a graphic facilitator for the GM Innovation Zone and the Los Alamos National Laboratories. I still love graphic facilitation and all my notes at CE are lavishly illustrated with sketches and visual concepts.

Personal
I started drawing when I was two, and my oldest drawings were of Tyrannosaurs—something I still love to draw to this day. I’m married to an amazing woman, have two dogs (one Pug, one Italian Greyhound) and two cats (one American Ninja and one Criminal Mastermind). We both love riding fixies, sailing, cooking, and people watching.

I probably attend and speak at more social media conferences than you have (unless you’re Brian Solis or Chris Brogan). You can see my speaking appearances on my PlanCast page.
